Bill OBrien Bio
Following the Patriots' 2011 season, O'Brien's contract was not renewed and allowed to expire, making him available to be interviewed by other NFL teams and NCAA programs. The Patriots gave the Jacksonville Jaguars permission to interview O'Brien during their bye week. After a head coaching position was never offered, on January 5th, 2012, O'Brien interviewed with Penn State staff. According to WEEI and ESPN, O'Brien agreed to take the position of head coach, replacing Joe Paterno, who was fired amid the Penn State sex abuse scandal. O'Brien is expected to continue as New England's offensive coordinator through the 2011–12 playoffs.
