Cause of Charlie Brown Chorão Death
Charlie Brown was found dead in his apartment last night in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Chorão, whose real name was Alexandre Magno Abrão, was the frontman for the Brazilian rock group Charlie Brown Jr. Early Wednesday morning he was pronounced dead on arrival by emergency responders. The cause of his death is still unknown, but a full investigation is underway. His driver reportedly found him unconscious in his home and called the Service Mobile Emergency Care immediately, but it was too late, Chorão was already dead.Sao Paulo police stated they received a call at 5:18 a.m. for "verification of natural death in an apartment."
Investigators on the case have ruled out foul play and one talked to local news reporters saying, "Apparently it was not murder."
Authorities are now speculating the musician's death was the result of a medication overdose or related to some other form of substance abuse. No one has indicated if police are investigating it as a suicide.
The singer was 42 at the time of his death.
Chorão, which means "Big Crying" In Portuguese, was a controversial singer and composer. He was the only remaining original member of the band Charlie Brown Jr.
The band was formed in 1992 and Chorão was the frontman until his death this week.
When the band was first formed, they played shows for quite a while with no official name. It wasn't until Chorão crashed his car into a coconut shack that was named "Charlie Brown" that the band members finally agreed on a solidified image.
Musically, Charlie Brown Jr. was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Suicidal Tendencies, and Rage Against the Machine. They have released 9 studio and 3 live albums.
When Chorão came to Santos at seventeen (after a difficult and somewhat traumatic childhood) he already had a strong interest in skateboarding and rock music. From time to time he would stand in for a singer of a local rock band when the guy had to go to the bathroom during a show. A musician in another saw Chorão performing during these bathroom breaks and invited him to join his band. When the band's bass player quit, Chorão found Champignon, who was then twelve. Later on, Chorão decided to start his own band, and invited Champignon and Pelado (Chorão's friend from another local band), and then Marcão and Thiago (a 5th member). The band would continue to have shows in the city without an official name until Chorão crashed his car into a coconut shack that was named "Charlie Brown"
Producer Rick Bonadio, whom Champignon knew, invited them to make a demo tape and he liked what he heard, and they were soon picked up by Virgin Records. In 1997, they released the debut album Transpiração Contínua Prolongada ("Continuous, Long Transpiration", a reference to hard work). Well received by the public, it remains as their biggest hit to date, and CBJ won a VMB (the Brazilian VMAs) in the Breakthrough Artist category. In April 2005 members Champignon, Marcão, and Pelado decided to leave the band, alleging 'artistic differences'. They were soon replaced by Heitor Vilela Gomes (currently on CPM 22) on bass, Pingüim on drums and beat box, and former band member Thiago Castanho, who returned to play guitar. This new Charlie Brown Jr. formation is toured throughout Brazil and around some cities in the United States in July[citation needed]. On March 6, 2013, Chorão, lead vocals and an original member of the group was found dead in his apartment. His driver found him unconscious and immediately called for an ambulance. Once it arrived, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The cause of death is still unknown.Charlie Brown Jr.'s next show was scheduled for March 22 at Campo Grande, in Rio de Janeiro.
