Floods in Australia One Killed Thousands Displaced

Warragamba Dam FloodFlooding continues in parts of Australia, including Sydney. In Sydney, floods submerge hundreds of homes and a number of infrastructure. Sydney City Government has opened the floodgates of Warragamba dam to release water pressure. Local residents fear flooding is greater than ever to hit Sydney.

While flooding also occurred in the eastern state of Victoria. Homes in the area inundated and the state of Victoria is expressed in high alert status due to persistent rain.

In anticipation of flooding, Australia's military has sent an army of soldiers and six trucks. They were assigned to help people who are isolated and prevent flooding by moving sandbags.

A man died and thousands were displaced from their homes in the floods that hit many areas in the state of New South Wales and Victoria.

According to ABC News on Sunday (03.04.2012) the body of a man from Victoria was found in a creek that overflowed after he and two friends were caught while trying to cross the river.

All three are swept away when out of their vehicle, but one person was saved because he adheres to a tree and another was found later.

The team joined police divers search for the missing man and his body was found about 7 am.

In the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley to the west of Sydney, New South Wales state, nearly 2-thousand people spent the night in evacuation centers or move in with relatives and friends.

The rain has eased in the area, but evacuation order remains in force in some cities.

Power outages at a number of houses by water from Warragamba Dam, which is overflowing for the first time in 14 years.

In the state of Victoria, rain expected to ease but flooding due to heavy rain during the week not expected to subside in a few days. More than 70 percent of the state of New South Wales and much wider area in northern Victoria are still flooded.
