Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints have worked out a deal that would send Reggie Bush to the Dolphins contingent on if he agrees to a new contract with Miami.

Bush’s name has certainly been linked in recent days and weeks to the Dolphins, who need to add a running back to complement draftee Daniel Thomas, whom the team selected in the second round of the draft back in April.

The only question was what kind of running back the Dolphins were going to add. Speculation persisted for a while on DeAngelo Williams. After he re-signed with Carolina on Wednesday, the focus shifted to Ahmad Bradshaw. Newsday had reported earlier that the New York Giants offered him an extension.

Now, it appears, the Dolphins have found their man. That is, assuming it all works out and the deal gets done.

Bush fits the mold of the kind of versatile, fast running back that Ireland has hinted at pursuing throughout the offseason. Though he might seem older because he’s been a household name for so long, dating back to his years at USC, Bush is only 26. And, due to various injuries, he’s only amassed 106 carries the past two seasons.

Reggie BushEqually important, perhaps, as Bush’s skill-set is the fact that he’s a “name.” His arrival in Miami, if it does indeed occur, will create a buzz. Bush was unquestionably the biggest star in college football when he entered the NFL, and his star hasn’t faded all that much despite the fact that he hasn’t exactly met the expectations heaped upon him when he entered the league.
